CENTRAL COLLEGE GLASGOW GETS FIVE STAR RATING FOR EXCELLENCE
Central College Glasgow has become the first college in Scotland to gain a European recognition for Excellence Award at Five Star level against Europe’s premier business excellence framework, the EFQM Excellence Model, by a European- based Assessor Team.
Assessors directly from the European-based European Foundation for Quality Management awarded Central College Five Star status – the highest rating available - following a rigorous three day on-site assessment in Glasgow in November.
The EFQM Excellence Model allows companies and organisations throughout the private and public sector in Europe to grade their performance in nine key areas such as leadership, policy and strategy, processes, people results, customer results, and key performance results.
Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive of Central College Glasgow, said: “I am delighted that Team Central has been Recognised for Excellence at a European Five Star level by EFQM.
“This accolade is a fitting tribute to the excellent work carried out by so many management, academic and support staff and Board members at Central in the past two years as we have embarked on a transformational journey to re-position re-structure, and re-brand Central College.
“At Central, we have been working continuously to improve all our processes, strengthen our leadership and drive up our results as well as benchmarking ourselves against some of Europe’s top businesses and public sector organisations.
“Everything we do at Central College is very much focussed on improving the experience of our learners, and this Five Star European status confirms Central’s position at the forefront of quality management in Scotland.”
EFQM is Europe’s most widely-used business excellence framework with more than 600 organisations using the model to improve performance, including, BMW, Iberdrola, Volkswagon. Microsoft, Rolls Royce, Lloyds TSB, Volvo, Fujitsu Microelectronics, Deutsche Telekom, Post Denmark and, the European Investment Bank.
The EFQM Excellence Model allows organisations to assess themselves under nine headings. The overall score is a European benchmark which allows organisations to develop and implement plans for improvement and growth.
Central College began on the path to EFQM status last year when it introduced a Balanced Scorecard for all department heads covering learners, finance, processes and growth and development. This has allowed department heads to play an active part in meeting the College’s organisational goals and to feed into the overall strategic plan for Central.
