Entry to the course is determined by an eligibility interview rather than specific qualifications

Attendance

Course starts Week commencing Monday 6th September 2010 and ends 22 June 2011. Attendance is one evening per week on a Wednesday unless demand requires a second class which would meet on a Tuesday); plus 9 other sessions which would be on a Wednesday or Thursday evening as appropriate.

Progression

Students achieving the Certificate in Learning & Development will have satisfied the qualification requirement for the Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and are eligible to move to the next qualification at the intermediate level.

Fees*

The cost is approximately £1,300. Additional fees are payable to CIPD (not the College) for student membership/subscription. Set by the CIPD, these fees are approximately £40 (admin fee) and £125 annual membership.

Aims of the course

The CIPD Certificate in Learning and Development Practice at the City of Glasgow College is a foundation level programme and is the most widely recognised qualification for those seeking success and credibility in the field of learning and development.

The programme enables learning and development professionals to develop the expertise to understand, identify, deliver and evaluate training within their organisation. It is designed for those who are in a learning and development or training related position.

Successful completion of the programme will gain the nationally recognised CIPD Certificate in Learning and Development Practice and fulfils the qualification requirement for Associate Membership of the CIPD.

Assessment

Assessments are primarily work-based bringing tangible benefits to your organization. They are combination of practical skills and reports. A variety of student-centred teaching/learning methods are used. There are three days of skills based training.

A workplace visit will be carried out within the first few months of the programme to discuss the progress and achievement with course members and their workplace mentor. A second one will be carried out to observe a L&D session.

There are opportunities for building links with CIPD practitioners through CIPD Branch meetings as well as the Branch Organisational Development Special Interest Group Meetings.
