How do I know what the best course is for me?

For information on courses and entry requirements please contact Information Services. Information Services is based in the Central Business Learning Zone (CBLZ), Allan Glen’s Campus, 190 Cathedral Street. You can visit the unit during office hours, or contact them on 0141 271 6354/6355/6356 or by e-mail at information@central-glasgow.ac.uk.

How do I apply?

Telephone enrolments are also available if paying by credit/debit card. If you are enrolling for a professional qualification you should contact the appropriate Course Leader for further information.

What are the entry requirements?

It is necessary that you meet the entry requirements specified for the course you wish to join. As these vary considerably, you should refer to the information provided on our website for each individual course. Alternatively the Course Leader will advise you. Their details are assigned to each course.

How do I fund my study?

If you are attending a part time course, you will be required to pay the full amount of the tuition fee at enrolment, if the fee is less than £300. If the fee is £300 or more you can pay in 2 instalments. Please note this option is only available to self financing students. Where no payment is received on enrolment in respect of a student due to pay fees, their details will not be processed through the computer registration system and a place cannot be guaranteed until payment is made. You will not be liable for fees if you can prove 100% employer sponsorship. Where employer sponsorship is partial, you will be liable for the outstanding balance in full on enrolment. Some candidates can qualify for funding through the ILA Scotland Click here for more information on ILA.

What happens if I withdraw?

If you decide to withdraw from your course you may be required to pay tuition fees and charges to the College on withdrawal from your course. Whether you will be required to pay or not and the amount of the payment will be at the discretion of the College. Any fee payable will be dependent on individual circumstances, reflecting attendance patterns.

What happens if the course is cancelled, can I get a refund?

Where the College has cancelled a course a full refund will be undertaken. In addition, where payment has been made, a £10 discount voucher redeemable against a College course will also be offered. Other than in the above case, refunds will not be granted unless extenuating circumstances prevail. The Depute Principal will determine if extenuating circumstances are relevant and decide whether a refund is appropriate as well as the value of the refund. The value of any refund will be dependent on a variety of factors, including individual circumstances. An administration charge of £20 will normally be deducted from the value of any refund. Please Note: Exam fees are non refundable.

Is there car parking available?

Limited student car parking is available for session 2009/2010. However, students with extenuating circumstances or specific requirements should contact Learner Services. Central College cannot be held responsible for vehicles which have been parked on College grounds in terms of loss or damage to these vehicles or their contents.

What do the College do for students with learning difficulties or have a disability?

If you have a disability, health condition or learning difficulty you may require certain facilities, assistive technology or support services as well as alternative exam or assessment arrangements to enable you to study and do as well as you can during your time at the College. You may have more than one disability, or a disability with various effects. Whatever your needs, Central College is committed to providing additional tailored Extended Learning Support for learners. You can discuss your own particular needs with a member of the team. It is very important that you declare if you have a disability, health condition or learning difficulty as early as possible to ensure that the College can support you during your time with us. Remember, requiring support is not a barrier to learning and every learner has individual needs, so support provision varies. Please be open about what support you may require as it will allow the Equalities Co-ordinator and the Lecturer in Core Skills and Learning Support to work with you to identify and meet your support needs. To download a copy of our Additional Support Guide please click here. To receive a copy please contact Gayle Gallacher. Ramps for wheelchair access are at the front entrance of the Allan Glen’s Building and Central Business Learning Zone and at the side entrance of the Charles Oakley Building. There are lifts to all floors and there are disabled toilets on the ground floor of the Allan Glen’s Campus, each floor of the Central Business Learning Zone and on the first floor of the Charles Oakley Building. Parking can be arranged at all sites.

What is a needs assessment?

A Needs Assessment is an opportunity for staff within the Learner Support Centre to meet with you to discuss your support needs and the demands of your course and to plan and prepare appropriate support strategies prior to you commencing your chosen course. After you have informed the College of your disability, you will be sent a form asking for background information on the type of support, if any, you have received in the past. Where possible, you will also be required to provide evidence of your disability such as a Psychological Assessment report, a letter from your GP/Consultant or from another appropriate agency. If you are a school leaver, we may also ask for permission to contact your school to gather additional information on your support requirements. Once the Learner Support Centre has received the information requested, you will receive an appointment to attend a Needs Assessment interview. For further information contact Gayle Gallacher.

What happens once I have completed my studies?

All students who successfully complete professional courses are invited to celebrate their achievements at the Annual Awards Ceremony. Students are given the opportunity to celebrate their success together with their classmates and proud friends and family. The city’s prestigious Royal Concert Hall plays host to this memorable event where students are awarded their certificates in the company of the Principal, Board of Management and other special guests.
